  About the Artwork

Despite its small size, this watercolor captures the aura of a fine summer day. There is a sense of movement-in the clouds, in the branches of the trees, and In the shimmer of the pond. To best see this work, one must be at least six feet away. Close at hand, details such as the line of plants along the pond become totally abstract. However, at a distance the short fluid strokes of blue, green, and yellow magically combine. The pond with its border emerges, and the luxuriant trees and foliage of a purplish-blue hue take
on more defined shapes.

This unique number is assigned to an individual artwork as part of the cataloguing process at the time of entry into the permanent collection.
Most frequently, accession numbers begin with the year in which the artwork entered the museum’s holdings.
For example, 2008.3 refers to the year of acquisition and notes that it was the 3rd of that year. The DIA has a few additional systems—no longer assigned—that identify specific donors or museum patronage groups.
